Migrating to the New Hub Planner Reports

Estimated reading time: 4 min

Hub Planner released a new version of our reporting engine and interface in 2019. The new reports offer a much richer and more dynamic way to view and load your reports. It was re-engineered from the ground up making sure we put the heavy lifting of the data in the right place to make the user experience of generating reports faster and more productive. The legacy reporting module was put on notification and legacy status in 2019 making it unsupported and ready for removal. we set a timeline of 1 year before the removal so customers could get comfortable with the new reporting interface and move over to it. To make that process simpler we added an option to your header to set the new reports as your choice of reporting, which flagged to us you are ready to move over.

Why should I move over to the new reports?

The old reports are no longer supported, so any new updates that come to the scheduler, time entries, settings, vacations etc will not be added as reported metrics to the legacy reports. So we definitely think you should transition over. Plus we will be removing the legacy reports and you will have to use the new improved reporting, so we think it is better to make the move now, and get familiar with the new one and ask any questions you like.

What is the difference between both reporting systems?

The new reports are far more performant, packed with a lot of useful templates and layout options, plus a unique report builder which allows you to build and configure any report you can imagine. You can see the new report feature page here. The old report system was built on an older technology stack and relied more heavily on the browser to do all the heavy lifting, which with large data sets was far from ideal. Now all this logic has been improved and our large customers can easily create large reports with expanding date ranges, which would not have worked in the older version.

What do I need to think about before moving over? 4 key tips to save you time.

You should first take a look at it and load some templates, you will be surprised that it does everything and more that the old one did. If you rely on the legacy reports today, then you need to identify what reports you rely on most, here is some guidance.

  1. Identify in the legacy reports which reports you rely on most
  2. Now go to the new reports and either find that same template from our sidebar, or if you can’t find the exact match, no worries find something that is close enough.
  3. From here you can edit the report and choose to add/remove columns, add/remove filters, change the grouping etc.
  4. If you can’t manage to get it looking like you want, then we will help you. Just send us a screenshot of what the report looks like today and what you managed to do in the new reports and we can help suggest how to get the desired results.

What about my saved reports

If you saved reports in the old version, then you will want to make sure you can recreate them in the new version. Don’t worry the same steps that you took above are the exact same steps you take in the new reports to replicate the report and save it. Unfortunately due to the difference in structure there is no way for us to programmatically map the old to the new so it needs to be a manual process. As above, we will help you if you need help just let us know.

New Reports Knowledge Base Help

There is a help guide and knowledge base to the new reports located here and of course we are more than happy to hear your questions and help guide you through the process.

If I start to use the new reports, will I still be able to access the legacy version?

For a short period yes, you will be able to use the url to get back to the old reports. This can be helpful for you to compare the old to the new to make sure you have what you need. We will fully remove them at the beginning of 2021.

Can we get some help if stuck on the new reports?

Of course, we are more than happy to either answer questions you send us or jump on a video call to help figure it out with you. Don’t worry you won’t be left not knowing what to do, one of our experts will happily help you.
